Written Off is a newly established journal dedicated to publishing high quality literary fiction, poetry and essays.

We publish works from both emerging and established writers that are formally or soulfully inventive. We invite readers to think differently and connect with provocative new ideas in literature.

In Catriona Menzies-Pike and Samuel Ryan’s landmark report “Literary Journals in Australia,” (July 2023) of Australia’s twenty two literary journals only one is based in Sydney.

Written Off aims to correct this imbalance, by publishing up to 40 writers a year, significantly expanding opportunities for both writers and readers to access compelling contributions from Australian authors.
